Tuesday July 1 picks

Race 1

The top three here all drop out of the same race on June 23. #1 RUNNING GEAR ran a much improved race in her first start for trainer Chris Crocker but had to settle for fifth after a very wide trip. An inside draw today should make all the difference. #6 LADY AT THE HELM closed well for fourth that day and #7 DON’T KNOCK TAP was a length better in third.

Suggested bet: Win - 1

Race 2

#5 VICARIOUS FLIGHT ran a huge race to get second, beaten a half-length, against tougher last time. He earned a speed figure that towers over anything today’s rivals have done recently and appears to be a legitimate 8-5 favorite. #3 SHARETHEHONOR ran well enough to win this last year and should appreciate the return to turf today. Word on the street is owner wants #4 GLIDERMAN to come from the back today. The change of tactics may serve him well.

Suggested bet: Pick 3 – 5 w/ 1,2 w/ 1,3,4

Race 3

#1 CICISBEO is just a different horse at Colonial, with 5 wins and 3 places from 8 starts. He ran huge to win against weaker last time and should be right on the wire yet again today. #2 MARTINS POINT was a good third behind the very tough Whata Monster last time.

Suggested bet: Win 1

Race 4

#1 ROSE O’TOUR dueled for the lead before giving it up in the stretch in her debut. The switch to turf and drop to maiden claiming company could trigger a turnaround today. #3 ICE POND is out of a turf winner and is backed a profitable trainer/jockey combo the last two years at Colonial.

Suggested bet: Pick 4 – 1,3,4 w/ 2 w/ 3,6 w/ 2,4

Race 5

#2 LIKEWISE showed some speed against tougher in her debut, earning a speed figure that is superior to any of her rivals on turf, and may well even improve in her second start. #7 NANA’S AVA has been competitive at this level and has the pedigree to handle the surface switch.

Suggested bet: Exacta box 2,7

Race 6

#3 HANDS ON projects to a perfect stalking strip behind some serious speed and is proven at this trip. #6 BETTIN ON M J wins this for fun if he’s as good on turf as he is on dirt but the 15-time winner has never been on the lawn and isn’t really bred for it. #2 MISSISSIPPI STORM hasn’t done much this year but has run well enough to challenge the top two on multiple occasions and does have a proven affinity for the Secretariat Turf Course.

Suggested bet: Trifecta 3 w/ 2,6 w/ 2,5,6

Race 7

#4 ROI DE VIOLETTE has been tiring late in his recent races but he appears to be the lone speed in this race and has some proven stamina with a win at 12 furlongs here last summer. #2 BRAHMS MELODY stretches back out off a strong second to What Monster last time. His lone two-turn try was not as good as his sprint form but he clearly has the talent to win this.

Suggested bet: Pick 3 – 2,4 w/ 2,3 w/ 4

Race 8

#3 SCHOLARSHIP faded in her debut but is bred to go longer and should move up in her second start for very dangerous connections. #2 MOUNTAIN SCENE ran into some monsters in her debut and should find a mile on dirt more to her liking. #6 SECRETS TO KEEP has run well enough to win this on multiple occasions but tends to settle for a minor share.

Suggested bet: Win - 3

Race 9

#4 SUMACHA’HOT has run two straight that would easily take this and he should love cutting back to 7 furlongs. #2 SPIRIT OF SECRETS closed well into a slow pace last time but likely faces the same scenario today. #3 ONLY BY INVITATION was rallying going shorter in his only dirt race.

Suggested bet: Trifecta box – 2,3,4
