Monday June 16 picks

Race 1

#1 BRAHMS FASHION seemed to find a new lease of life in pure turf sprints with a dynamic win last out at Pimlico. #6 WHATA MONSTER wins this for fun if he’s what he was last year but a mediocre return effort and a drop from 3x allowance to $8k claim today are bright red flags. #2 MARTINS POINT hasn’t done it in a while but he adores this trip.

Suggested bet: Exacta box – 1,6

Race 2

#3 RIGHT ON GO tumbles from MSW to $7,500. If she’s right she wins and you have to assume she’s right if they’re running her back in just 10 days. #6 VEGAS GIRL has run fast enough to win but a two-month layoff with just one slow work in between leave fitness a major question. #2 CINNAMON LEE may move up in turf debut. #7 AMAZEL ME can fill the tri at a big price.

Suggested bet: Trifecta key – 3 w/ 2,6,7

Race 3

There are three horses fast enough to win this and two of them are coupled. #1A ENJOYABLE has suffered from a string of horrific posts and rough trips. #1 HISSY FIT drops a ton in class and tries turf for the fist time. Not much turf breeding here but would certainly be no real surprise. #5 FREAKAZOID ran into a monster last time but fits this level beautifully.

Suggested bet: Trifecta – 1,5 w/ 1,5 w/ ALL

Race 4

#5 GOLD HOUSE stretches back out to a distance he likes and returns to a track he loves. Top rider Karamanos chooses him over #1A SMILING CAT so we will too. Smiling Cat and entrymate #1 BRICKELL both fit this level well and should help fill the chalky exacta

Suggested bet: Pick-4 – 1,5 w/ 2,6 w/ 6 w/ 1,9

Race 5

#6 MACH Z encountered trouble in both turf tires and should still have upside in just her fourth lifetime start. This is also the first time she’s been able to run two straight without a layoff, an encouraging sign for betters hoping for a career best. #2 SHARON has a great string of works for her debut and catches a reasonable field. #5 PING BAY has a nice turf pedigree for her debut race.

Box – Exacta box – 2,6

Race 6

#6 RAGS OLD IRON finally gets back to turf for his first real follow up to an excellent debut win in March. #3 WOOD ALLEY is surrounded by questions today as he tries turf for the fist time coming two terrible races in row followed by a long layoff and a trainer switch. He’s good enough to win but is a pure guess beyond that. #4 DON’TQUESTION IT is appropriately spotted after a sharp maiden-breaking score and would be no shock to win right back.

Suggested bet: Win – 6

Race 7

#1 STIRRUP CUP makes her turf debut for the deadly team of Graham Motion and Luis Garcia, who win at over 50% when teaming up at Colonial. #9 HOLY GRACE is a perfectly logical favorite dropping out of stakes company who should give Motion the top two spots here. #4 DEELITEFUL STAR has run well enough to win this and finally draws well after two tough posts in a row.

Suggested bet: Pick-3 – 1,9 w/ 2,3 w/ 7,10

Race 8

#2 UNBRIDLED BEHAVIOR is perfect on the Colonial main track and goes third of the layoff today. #3 MAGICAL GEM owns an impressive speed figure speed and is a perfectly legitimate favorite but his struggles off the layoff last time he tried it gives hope to value players here.

Suggested bet: Daily Double – 2,3 w/ 4

Race 9

#7 HITTHESNOOZE is the hunch play for all of us tired out by the early weekend post times. In all seriousness, he could easily win this race by 10 lengths off his 2007 form and shows a bullet work in preparation for this spot. #10 CARTER’S SONG looks like the best of the rest.

Suggested bet: Exacta box – 7,10
